In a significant diplomatic and development engagement, the Office of the Special Envoy for U.S. Trade & Investment to the Republic of Liberia welcomed a high-level delegation from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in Liberia. The meeting was facilitated by Mr. Jetee Tarr, Special Aide to the Special Envoy, on behalf of Hon. Isaac Taggart, Jr., in his absence.
The MCC delegation included:
- Ms. Carrie Monahan, Managing Director for Africa
- Ms. Deidra Fair James, Director of Finance & Trade
- Mr. Peter Glick, Economist
- Ms. Sophia Marcus, Economist
The discussion centered on Liberia’s trajectory toward securing a second MCC compact and the need to translate reform momentum into measurable impact. Mr. Tarr, representing the Office of the Special Envoy, underscored Liberia’s commitment to building on MCC’s legacy investments in energy and infrastructure while exploring new partnership avenues in economic governance, trade facilitation, and human capital development.
“This was an incredibly meaningful opportunity to reaffirm our government's readiness to align with MCC’s core principles, good governance, sound economic policies, and investing in people,” said Mr. Tarr. “We remain hopeful that Liberia will advance toward a second compact that further unlocks prosperity for our citizens.”
The MCC team expressed appreciation for the government’s strong engagement and reiterated their commitment to continued collaboration with Liberia’s institutions and stakeholders.
This engagement builds on the strategic direction set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deepen Liberia’s global partnerships and catalyze transformative investment in alignment with President Joseph N. Boakai’s ARREST Agenda.
